Adversary Modes

A competitive family of team Jobs where roles and win conditions change across pursuit, escort, territory, elimination, vehicle and multi-stage assault modes. The index groups the documented mechanics catalogue without promising that every historical Job is always visible in matchmaking.

Complete activity guide

Rockstar cycles some Adversary Jobs in and out. Mansion Raid, Deadline Duet, Motor Wars (Cayo Perico), Assault on Cayo Perico, Assault on ATT-16 and Slasher (Ramius) are rotational, Featured or seasonal entries—none has confirmed permanent visibility. If a name is absent from Rockstar Created/Featured Series, choose an active mode from the same group rather than forcing an inactive Job. Economics remain informational.

Adversary Modes

Start here

Open Pause Menu → Online → Jobs → Play Job → Rockstar Created → Adversary Modes. You can also use phone Quick Join or an active Featured/Adversary Series marker.

Access and requirements

Depending on the mode, 2–30 players and usually at least two teams; all supported platforms, while specific playlists can differ. Ordinary launch requires no property or fee.

If the start is missing

Reset the filter to Rockstar Created and check Featured Series. If Mansion Raid, Deadline Duet, Motor Wars (Cayo Perico), Assault on Cayo Perico, Assault on ATT-16 or Slasher (Ramius) is absent, that rotational/Featured/seasonal entry is not currently exposed—it is not an account error. Do not treat an unofficial Job ID as guaranteed permanent access.

01 • First completion, step by step

First completion, step by step

  1. 01

    Choose an active mode

    ACTION
Open the current list and choose a name whose description clearly defines the roles. For a first run, simple asymmetric rules such as Hasta La Vista, Sumo or an active territory mode are easier to read.
    TIP
Do not choose only by map; the win-condition description matters more than the weapon set.
    RISK / FAILURE CONDITION
A historical name in the guide can be temporarily absent from the list.
    HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
Choose an active mode from the same mechanics group and keep the role plan; do not force an inactive bookmark.
  2. 02

    Read the role and rounds

    ACTION
Before readying up, check whether you are a Runner, Hunter, Attacker, Defender, Target, Bodyguard or a regular team, and whether roles swap after a round.
    TIP
Tell the team in one sentence what ends the round: surviving the timer, delivery, zone control, elimination or stage completion.
    RISK / FAILURE CONDITION
Playing for kills in a package/zone mode can lose the round despite an elimination lead.
    HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
Return to the main objective and send one player as objective runner while the rest provide cover.
  3. 03

    Configure a fair lobby

    ACTION
The host checks rounds, time limit, matchmaking, team balancing and any mode-supplied vehicles/weapons.
    TIP
For learning, use at least two rounds when roles swap so both teams experience each side.
    RISK / FAILURE CONDITION
A single round of an asymmetric mode can favour only one side of the map/role.
    HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
Return to settings before the ready screen and increase rounds or enable balancing.
  4. 04

Play the role, not the scoreboard

    ACTION
Runner/Target moves to the checkpoint or zone; Defender holds a chokepoint; Hunter/Attacker forces the objective to move; escort protects the correct player/vehicle.
    TIP
Keep spacing: protection moves one step ahead of the objective rather than behind it; attackers push from two sides instead of feeding one by one.
    RISK / FAILURE CONDITION
Leaving the spawn/condition zone can block your progress or leave the Target unescorted.
    HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
Regroup on the next respawn and choose one shared route; do not try to recover the whole map alone.
  5. 05

    Adapt after the side swap

    ACTION
After a round read the new role. Use what the opponent showed: copy a strong chokepoint, counter their route or change the driver/Target.
    TIP
In multi-round modes the overall result can depend on points, not only the last round.
    RISK / FAILURE CONDITION
Repeating the previous role after an automatic side swap sends players away from the new objective.
    HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
Pause on the opening screen, name the new roles and only then move.
  6. 06

    Close the match

    ACTION
Play the required rounds and wait for the final scoreboard and GTA$/RP/JP settlement. Choose Replay only after checking that the mode remains active.
    TIP
Final result and Job configuration affect the reward; do not apply one mode's amount to the entire family.
    RISK / FAILURE CONDITION
Leaving before the final screen can lose match completion or Career Progress.
    HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
Wait for the save; if the lobby dissolves, return to Rockstar Created/Featured and choose an active entry.

02 • Variants and mechanics

Variants and mechanics

Pursuit, target and escort

Typically 2–12

An active Adversary Modes entry.

OBJECTIVE
One side moves/protects an objective while the other hunts or blocks its route.
MECHANIC
Index: Come Out to Play, Siege Mentality, Hasta La Vista, Hunting Pack, Extraction, Rhino Hunt, Entourage, Running Back, Offense Defense and their active Remix/Get Lamar variants. Asymmetric rules need an even number of rounds to compare both sides.
COMPLETION
The objective reaches the end/survives or is eliminated before the limit.
HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
After losing escorts slow the objective and regroup; after losing the Runner, the next round is the only way to recover the match.

Territory, packages and control

Typically 2–16

An active Rockstar Created/Featured entry.

OBJECTIVE
Control a zone, move a package or hold points longer than the opposition.
MECHANIC
Index: Cross the Line, Drop Zone, Inch by Inch, In and Out, Turf Wars, Land Grab, Occupy, Stockpile, Collection Time and Dawn Raid. Assault on Cayo Perico, Assault on ATT-16 and Mansion Raid form the multi-stage end of this group, but they are rotational/Featured and have no confirmed permanent visibility.
COMPLETION
Target score reached, control held through time or all stages completed.
HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
When a package drops, cover clears the immediate area before the objective runner retrieves it.

Elimination and changing combat roles

Typically 2–16

An active catalogue/themed-series entry.

OBJECTIVE
Win through limited weapons/lives, a Juggernaut role or a rotating target state.
MECHANIC
Index: Slasher, Slasher (Ramius), Beast vs. Slasher, Every Bullet Counts, Lost Vs Damned, Trading Places, Power Play, Kill Quota, Juggernaut, Condemned, Slashers, Resurrection, Power Mad, Hardest Target, Judgement Day, Till Death Do Us Part and Trading Places (Remix). Slasher (Ramius) is a seasonal variant with no confirmed permanent visibility.
COMPLETION
Last team/role alive or the elimination/score target reached.
HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
After losing momentum do not feed individual respawns; regroup, recover the power-up/Target and push in one window.

Vehicle, race and open-arena modes

Typically 2–28

An active name in Adversary/Featured Series.

OBJECTIVE
Maintain speed, deliver a vehicle, knock out rivals, collect objectives or survive elimination.
MECHANIC
Index: Keep the Pace, Relay, Slipstream, Deadline, Vehicle Vendetta, Tiny Racers, Overtime Rumble, Overtime Shootout, Motor Wars, Bombushka Run, Air Quota, Dogfight, The Vespucci Job, Trap Door, Sumo, Sumo (Remix), The Vespucci Job (Remix), Deadline Duet and Motor Wars (Cayo Perico). The final two are Featured/rotational entries with no confirmed permanent visibility.
COMPLETION
The race/elimination/objective condition shown by the mode.
HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
After losing a vehicle use the mode-supplied respawn and return to the objective rather than a revenge duel.

Bunker / Missile Base / Diamond Series

Depends on the base mode

While the themed series is active in the menu/marker.

OBJECTIVE
Play a known mechanic on a special interior map.
MECHANIC
Mechanics index used by themed series: Entourage, Every Bullet Counts, Hardest Target, Juggernaut, Kill Quota, Power Play, Resurrection, Slasher, Till Death Do Us Part and Trading Places. A themed map does not create a new economy or separate guide family.
COMPLETION
The base mode's win condition is met.
HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
If the series leaves rotation, launch an active version of the base mechanic or another group.

Arena War — separate family

2–16

Arena War Series or the separate Arena War guide.

OBJECTIVE
Play the nine Maze Bank Arena vehicle modes.
MECHANIC
Carnage, Flag War, Wreck It, Tag Team, Games Masters, Here Come the Monsters, Hot Bomb, Buzzer Beater and Bomb Ball are indexed in the Arena War guide. They are not duplicated here as ten extra permanent cards.
COMPLETION
Arena War Series result.
HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
Open the dedicated guide for vehicles, Workshop access and each submode's rule.

03 • Real roles / Strategies

Real roles i Strategies

Real roles

Objective runner / Target

Handles the route, zone or package and must not be left without escort.

Real roles

Escort / Defender

Builds a safe corridor and protects the objective rather than chasing distant kills.

Real roles

Interceptor / Attacker

Blocks the predicted route and pressures from a second angle rather than making isolated charges.

SAFE FIRST RUN

Choose an active mode with a one-sentence objective, play an even number of rounds and name roles before launch. Understanding both sides' win conditions matters more than the first-session result.

ADVANCED

Build the team around the objective runner, force respawns away from the objective and use side swaps to counter-plan. In a rotating catalogue, learn the mechanics group rather than one map.

GTA$, RP and JP depend on win/loss, rounds, duration, player count and the selected Adversary Mode settings. Finish the match and its scoreboard; leaving mid-match is not a reliable earnings model. Because the active catalogue rotates and has no universal base table, the family remains outside rankings.

GTA$Adversary Mode: GTA$ = max(100, rounded to 10 [Job base × players × placing/result × duration ÷ lobby divisor × Job multiplier])

Observed range specific to this activity; variant, result, duration or completion condition selects the value within it. Event multipliers are excluded.

05 • Common mistakes and recovery

Common mistakes and recovery

Searching endlessly for an inactive name

Check Rockstar Created and Featured; treat an absent mode as out of rotation.

Playing only for kills

State the win condition and assign an objective runner before moving.

One asymmetric round

Use an even number of rounds so roles swap fairly.

Applying one mode's payout to all modes

Read that Job's settlement; the family stays outside hourly rankings.
