    In Freemode patrol the ten possible points along the southern San Andreas coast until a blue-dot skeleton random event appears. Collect the nearby Metal Detector and inspect the map. Then launch the Cayo heist's Gather Intel and travel to the island.

    Access and requirements

    Solo on all supported platforms. The detector is a free one-time unlock; the actual stashes require Cayo access and an active Gather Intel. The Kosatka/setup belong to the heist rather than being a pickup fee.

    If the start is missing

    The blue dot is random and despawns after a limited time—change area/session and revisit the coastal pool. If Cayo has no two white search zones, confirm you collected the detector and are in Gather Intel rather than the finale.

      Find the skeleton event

      ACTION
      Search the southern shoreline in normal Freemode and react to the blue dot beside a smuggler's skeleton.
      TIP
      Sweep the points in one loop; the event may spawn for another player in the session and each player can collect their own detector.
      RISK / FAILURE CONDITION
      The event despawns after about 10 real-time minutes if left uncollected.
      HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
      After it despawns leave the area and wait for another roll; no purchase replaces this unlock.

      Collect the detector

      ACTION
      Approach the Metal Detector beside the skeleton, confirm the pickup and inspect the Cayo map.
      TIP
      Wait for the unlock message before changing session; the detector is found only once.
      RISK / FAILURE CONDITION
      Inspecting the map without collecting the device does not grant island scanning access.
      HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
      Return to the object beside the skeleton and use its separate pickup prompt; after saving, check Gather Intel.

      Launch Cayo intel

      ACTION
      From the Kosatka launch Gather Intel, reach Cayo and open the island map; two wide white search zones should be visible.
      TIP
      Route the nearest zone around the current intel objective to avoid making two full island loops.
      RISK / FAILURE CONDITION
      Stashes do not appear in the heist finale or on the normal Los Santos map.
      HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
      Return to the Kosatka and launch the correct Gather Intel stage; do not buy Sonar Station, which concerns Hidden Caches rather than Buried Stashes.

      Scan the white zone

      ACTION
      Enter the white circle, hold the aim control to equip the Metal Detector and move toward stronger lights and faster beeping.
      TIP
      Sweep the area in strips; a continuous tone means you are almost on top of the mound.
      RISK / FAILURE CONDITION
      The detector cannot be used outside the zone, and decorative mounds show no prompt to a player without the unlock.
      HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
      Return inside the circle, start at its edge and compare signal strength after each short section.

      Dig up both stashes

      ACTION
      When the exact marker/mound appears, use the dig prompt, wait for settlement and repeat in the second zone until the counter shows 2/2.
      TIP
      Each player in the same intel mission can dig up their own copy, but only if they previously unlocked the detector.
      RISK / FAILURE CONDITION
      One stash does not trigger a set bonus; the other is not the land/underwater Treasure Chest.
      HOW TO RECOVER THE RUN
      Check Interaction Menu → Daily Collectibles. If the counter did not rise, return to the mound and wait for $25,000 + 1,000 RP before leaving the island.

    Progress is personal. Teammates may share the same Gather Intel, but each needs their own unlock and must dig up their own two stashes.

    SAFE FIRST RUN

    Save the one-time detector first. On Cayo sweep the white circle in strips and react to signal changes rather than memorised scenery.

    ADVANCED

    Fold both zones into the required intel route, start with the stash farthest from the airstrip and finish near the exit to avoid duplicate travel.
